Fixing NTLDR Error in Windows XP

Posted: November 10, 2010 in Uncategorized

Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows XP CDs supplied by Microsoft has a tool called the Recovery Console which can be used to repair errors that prevent Windows XP from starting using the command line. OEM versions of Windows XP, including computers that were supplied with Windows XP preinstalled, may not have this utility.

STEPS:
1. Insert the Windows CD and start the computer.
2. When the Welcome to Setup screen appears, press R.
3. Type a number corresponding to the Windows installation you wish to repair (usually 1) and press Enter.
4. When prompted, type the administrator password and press Enter.
5. From the command prompt, copy NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM from the i386 folder of the CD to the root folder of the hard drive. In the example commands given below, C: is the hard drive and D: is the CD-ROM drive. You will need to change the drive letters if appropriate:
6. COPY D:\I386\NTLDR C:\
7. COPY D:\I386\NTDETECT.COM C:\
8. Remove the Windows XP CD from the drive and restart the computer.

Done

Scenario: In Windows XP, if you encounter a problem “Write Protection error on your Flash Disk”, and this happens when you transfer a file from your harddisk to your flash disk or even creating a file direct to it. This type of error is seldom.

Here’s how to solve the problem:

1. Click on START, click on RUN

2. Type-in REGEDIT

3. Locate this Folder from your registry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CURRENTCONTROLSET/CONTROL/STORAGEDEVICEPOLICIES

4. Delete the DWORD 32-bit value and create same DWORD but leave its value as is.

5. The name of the DWORD is “WriteProtect”, you must re-create same name as the original.

That’s it.

Scenario: To fix common errors on Asus P5GC-MX/1333 motherboard, somehow updating its BIOS will permanently fix its errors. We will be using Asus EZ Flash Utility. NOTE: YOU MUST PLUG YOUR CPU TO AN INTERRUPTIBLE POWER SUPPLY TO PREVENT BIOS CRASH. (This update is designed for Asus P5GC-MX/1333 model only.

Here’s how you should do it:

To update the BIOS using EZ Flash:

1. Download the latest BIOS File from Asus Website.

2. After downloading the file, rename that file to P5GCMX-ROM.

3. Press ALT +F2 during POST to activate EZ Flash Program.

4. Make sure to insert your Floppy Diskette or CD Disc that contains the file P5GCMX-ROM, it will automatically search for the updated BIOS File.

5. After searching the updated BIOS file, it will automatically erase the old BIOS File and install the latest BIOS file.

6. Reboot the computer

Lenovo IdeaPad S10

Lenovo IdeaPad S10

Computer Notebook nowadays are getting smaller-and-smaller to save both electricity and space. This  Social Netbook by Lenovo is one of the best notebook i have ever encountered in terms of flexibility and reliability.

“The design of the IdeaPad S10 is unsurprisingly similar to other netbooks we’ve seen in recent months, but Lenovo has managed to include a few pleasant surprises. The exterior is covered in white “pearl-like” plastics with a slight glossy finish. The interior keyboard and palmrest surfaces are covered with matte white plastics with reasonable durability and only a minor bit of flex around the palmrests when you press firmly on those surfaces.

What first appears to be a giant beefy hinge for the 10-inch display is actually the 3-cell battery with a small hinge on either side of the tiny laptop. Overall, the look is quite nice, but the white plastics do give this netbook a slightly “toy like” appearance. When I took the S10 with me and was using it in public with my 2-year-old daughter nearby several other parents asked me if the S10 was a toy laptop for my daughter. That is unfortunate since, as we are about to mention, the S10 is a remarkably capable ultraportable laptop. (excerpt from: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4620)”
