Scenario:
When your PC loads your Windows; you will noticed that the loading process is normal except that you cannot see any icons on your Desktop as well as your Taskbar. Worst thing is that Task Manager was also disabled; seriously speaking you are infected by a Trojan Virus.
Solution:
If you have a critical data on your hard drive make sure you have an Image Copy or what they called a “Backup Copy” on that particular hard drive before attempting to repair it. Most Technical Support Engineers do this even when the hard drive contains none critical data at all. Once you have done the Backup Copy follow these procedures:
1. Remove the hard drive that contains the Trojan Virus.
2. Place it in an enclosure and plug it to any Computer Desktop or Notebook that its Operating System (Windows) is fully patched and most vital is that it must have an Anti-virus Program with an updated virus definition file.
3. Once done, scan that hard drive and remove or neutralize any viruses found.
4. Next, if your scanning is finished then put it back to its original CPU.
5. Then make sure you have the installation CD of Windows that is the same as installed in your hard drive which is the infected hard drive.
6. Our next step is to repair the Windows by using the Repair option under Windows Installation process. Make sure that you choose the second Repair option NOT the first option of your Windows Installation setup.
7. Don’t worry this process will only update all corrupt system files of your Windows. It will not format or remove any existing Operating System or Applications on that particular hard drive.
8. If your encounter any error messages just continue to install the update process, don’t panic. TIP: Make sure you have UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) installed on your PC.
9. Once done and you have entered into its Windows GUI or Desktop; make sure to update Windows by its Service Pack 2 first. Note: Service Pack 3 of Windows XP has already released by Microsoft.
10. Next, you must install a new anti-virus program that is also updated. Now double check any Applications and Data Files installed.
11. Olah… that’s it. I hope this will help anyone with the same problem.
