Reformatting a harddrive is a major catastrophe once you haven’t backup your files if any. You will need an installer of Windows Operating System preferably original copy to do the job. Please make sure you have configured the CMOS setup of your motherboard’s boot sequence, also make your optical drive as your primary or first boot to start. Optical Drive is vital as we are gonna be using a CD/DVD Installer Disc. Once ready, let start:
- To enter into your CMOS setup of your motherboard, press F2 or Delete key depending on what chipset your motherboard has.
- Once you are in the CMOS Configuration find the Boot Menu, make sure that the sequence is pointed to your Optical Drive or make it as your first drive. To change/update the value, you can press F5 or F6, or Enter Key, or Backspace, depending on the assigned keys by your motherboard and these are the shortcut keys to update the sequence.
- If done, before exiting your CMOS Configuration, you can now insert the Disc or the installer into your optical drive.
- Now, save and exit the CMOS.
- Wait until the message appears on your screen “Press any key to boot into your CD-ROM”, and then just press any key of your keyboard to execute the command.
- It will now automatically boot your Disc which is your Windows Setup.
- Once in the Windows Setup, please follow the instructed procedure until you reach the Option Re-format and Re-partitioning.
- To delete a partition, follow the command below your screen. Usually to delete a partition just press Delete key and by pressing letter L to totally remove the drive letter.
- To create a partition, just press enter key to the selected drive, by default, the total capacity is displayed. Note: To create multiple partitions, just type any amount of harddisk space you may want or simply divide the space of your harddrive, and so on and so forth. (e.g. to create a two (2) partitions, simply divide it by two, if the capacity is 80GB, just type 40000 or any amount you may wanted)
- If done partitioning your harddrive it’s time to Format your harddrive by choosing the Format without “Quick” option and by using NTFS. Approximate formatting time including installation is about 45 minutes depending on the speed of your computer.
- Once installation is finished make sure to install necessary drivers of your motherboard and by updating your Windows with the latest Service Packs.
- That’s it, you can now start installing into your harddrive on the default drive which is the DRIVE C:
